My personal favourite photos of 2017
2017 was a fairly good year with some great workshops and erratic weather bringing with it some wonderful moments of light. So here I’ve put together a selection of my personal favourites:
Sveti Tomaz (The Church of Saint Thomas)
Situated in the hills of Northern Slovenia, Sveti Tomaz is one of the country’s iconic views, and a well photographed location. While I took the classic shots in winter with fog, I also managed to get some nice later morning shots:
Jamnik Church
This great little church is another of Slovenia’s iconic locations for photographers. I took a photography workshop group here in Spring and we were treated to a great morning at dawn and then with the sun rising over Mount Storzic:
I also went back on my own a couple of times throughout the year:
Lake Bled
Unfortunately much of the year the famous Lake Bled church was covered with scaffolding due to renovations taking place, but in May it was finally removed, just in time for my workshop, and we got some great shots.
Thanks to Luka Esenko and his team at Snapp Guides, I found some great new viewpoints of many popular locations in Slovenia. This viewpoint is from Ojstrica Hill at the western end of the lake in Autumn. There will be more to come from other places in 2018.
Lake Bohinj
Stunning Lake Bohinj never fails to impress, and I led several workshops here in 2017:
Stormy weather in the Alps
Being just a 15 minute drive from great mountain views I can often dash off when the light looks promising:
Ljubljana Moors (Ljubljansko Barje)
Krim Mountain is a dominant view on the southern horizon of Ljubljana, so I just love photographing it. in 2017 I was treated to some great moments of light:
Church of Saint Anne (Sveta Ana)
This little church on the hill is a distinctive view when driving towards the villages of Jezero and Podpec. In 2017 I scouted for some different viewpoints and these three are my favourite:
The view from the church hill is also quite spectacular, and one particular day a passing storm produced some great light:
Vintgar Gorge
The gorge is a great place to learn how to capture fast flowing water effects so I always take my photography students there.
