Dawn view on the day after the Summer Solstice from Rantovše hill across to Sveti Tomaz nad Praprotnim (church of Saint Thomas), the Kamnik Alps, with the waning crescent Moon and Venus beside them, Slovenia.
A 3am start with the intention of photographing the sun rising over the Kamnik Alps at its closest point to the church of Saint Thomas. Something that only happens around the Summer Solstice. (that photo to come later).
This time was the complete opposite of my last attempt to capture it rising over Storzic behind Jamnik, where thick cloud over the mountains hampered that one. This morning was completely clear, not a single cloud in the sky, albeit a few wisps over the peaks.
But the surprise as I drove up to the viewpoint was the crescent moon and Venus in alignment just up to the right.
A tricky shot, given it was already quite high above, but worth a go anyway.
