Photography YouTube channels are a fantastic resource, especially if you are trying learn something new. When I started out, YouTube was still very much in its infancy and there weren’t that many channels dedicated to photography. Mostly I learned from books, online articles and tutorials. However, I soon progressed on to YouTube once the quality of photography videos improved.
Naturally, once I had reached the stage where I considered myself good enough, I also started my own channel. At first I mostly published editing tutorials, but then tried my hand at vlogs in the field.
While doing so, I also began searching and watching many other great photography youtube channels. Some I watched for their tips and tutorials, others also for location ideas, inspiration and to simply journey to some of the amazing destinations I may likely never get to visit myself.
Watching YouTube in Isolation
Of course, often the biggest problem is finding the time to watch all our favourite youtubers and videos. Currently though, due to this terrible situation with the coronavirus, pretty much most of us are stuck in isolation around the world; either through a lockdown or self-quarantine. So maybe now is a great time to catch up on all those great YouTube videos.
We may not like having to stay at home, but we might as well make use of the time. So take this time to plan and research great new photography locations, or learn some new shooting and editing skills, or simply go on a virtual journey to a remote place like the Faroe Islands.
So therefore I’ve compiled a list of ten great photography youtube channels. Check out each one, and subscribe to their channels. Please note these are NOT in order of the best or my favourite, each one is great in his own right and they are all my favourite.
Adam Gibbs
You may have seen Adam Gibbs as Gavin Hardcastle’s quirky and somewhat hapless sidekick in Fototripper. Uncle Grumpy, as he’s known, is actually a seasoned photographer, and clearly the best and most experienced of the so-called F4 team. His own channel, Quiet Light Photography, is a far cry from his Fototripper persona. For some really insightful tips and stunning photos from a true master of light, this is the channel to watch.

Thomas Heaton
Thomas Heaton is rapidly becoming a household name when it comes to photography youtube channels. He was one of the first photography vloggers I watched. Tom is a great photographer, and also gets to travel to so many amazing places. I got hooked on his channel as much for the travel as the useful tips he provides. I particularly love how he now travels the UK in his custom-made campervan. Something I dream of doing.

Nick Page
Nick Page is an amazing photographer who lives somewhere in the western United States. His vlogs and photos are from around the world, but I particularly love watching his photoshoots from the Oregon coast, a stunning location. Full of great tips, Nick also displays a touch of subtle humour and wit, especially when he teams up with Gavin Hardcastle for his crazy videos.

Fototripper
If you’ve read the previous suggestions, then you’ve already heard of Gavin Hardcastle; AKA Fototripper. While it may seem like Gavin’s channel is more of a comedy show than an actual photography youtube channel, he is a talented photographer. He’s managed to brilliantly turn his vlogs into unique blends of comedy and photography. Using the British ability to make fun of ourselves, Gavin’s videos will not only entertain, but teach you too.

Michael ShainBlum
Michael Shainblum is a master of timelapse and night photography, as well as an exceptionally talented landscape photographer. He has a very laid back and cool approach to his vlogging, and it’s great to see and learn how he approaches his work. If you want tips on milky way and other night sky photography, this is the channel to watch.

Paul Miguel Wildlife Photography
Now I am not a wildlife photographer, but I do like to shoot wildlife photos on the odd occasion, when I am able and also have the time. It’s a totally different skill and technique, and one that I still have a lot to learn about. I found this guy on Facebook, and immediately signed up for his excellent and thoroughly detailed tips and tutorials. His videos are well thought out and extremely well put together.

Nigel Morley
Sadly, Nigel Morley hasn’t been uploading lately. I don’t know why, but the channel is still active and hopefully he’ll resume again soon. Nigel is a wildlife and landscape photographer and I really enjoy his cool approach. His channel is a good mix of tutorials for wildlife and landscape photography vlogs.
Mads Peter Iversen
While this guy is without doubt a great photographer, what I love most about his channel is the huge amount of vlogs he does from the Faroe Islands. Mads seems to almost be living there, and clearly runs lots of photography tours on the islands. He presents the Faroes beautifully in his videos, and gives lots of good information about them, plus other great locations, along with some very useful advice and tips.

Ben Kapur
Ben’s channel should have a lot more viewers. Granted he’s only been running for a few years now, but it’s a great channel showing some of the best places to photograph around his home county of Dorset, along with other locations. Ben is a great photographer, so I thoroughly enjoy watching him work and especially love seeing the Dorset coast, which is one of my favourite places in the world.

VDub Photography Life
Last but not least, how about travelling around doing landscape photography in a VW campervan? This guy is truly living my dream. He travels around the UK and Europe in his camper photographing and vlogging, and capturing some great photos with it. A very entertaining channel. Go check him out and subscribe. He deserves and lot more recognition.
